FAQ’s

What conditions do you cover?

We specialise in elderly care and rehabilitation, neurological rehabilitation, post-operative therapy and palliative care. Please contact us and we can book a consultation to better understand your specific needs.

The initial assessment is a crucial step in developing an effective treatment plan for individuals with musculoskeletal, neurological, or other physical conditions. While the specific details may vary depending on the nature of the condition, the following are general aspects you can expect during an initial assessment:

Medical History Review: Our therapist will ask about your medical history, including current symptoms, previous injuries or surgeries, medications, and any relevant medical conditions.

Functional Assessment: Evaluation of your ability to perform daily activities and movements will be conducted. This may include assessing your posture, gait (walking pattern), balance, and mobility.

Pain Assessment: If pain is a concern, the therapist will assess the location, intensity, and nature of the pain. This information helps in understanding the source of the problem.

Range of Motion Testing: an evaluation of the range of motion in the affected joints or areas of the body. This helps in identifying limitations and potential areas of improvement.

Muscle Strength Testing: The strength of specific muscle groups related to your condition will be assessed. This is important for understanding muscle imbalances and weaknesses.

Neurological Assessment: If applicable, a neurological assessment may be conducted to evaluate nerve function, reflexes, and coordination.

Postural Assessment: Assessment of your posture can provide valuable information about muscle imbalances and alignment issues.

Palpation: The therapist may use hands-on techniques to feel for muscle tightness, joint stiffness, or areas of tenderness.

Diagnostic Testing: In some cases, it may be advised to have further evaluation and diagnostic tests such as X-rays, MRIs, or other imaging studies to get a more detailed view of the underlying issue which will be passed onto your GP.

Patient Goals and Expectations: Discussion about your goals and expectations is an essential part of the assessment. This helps in tailoring the treatment plan to meet your specific needs.

Education: Information about your condition, explaining the contributing factors and providing advice on Self-Management strategies.

Treatment Plan: Based on the assessment findings, the Therapist will develop a personalised treatment plan that may include therapeutic exercises, manual therapy such as massage, education, and other modalities.

Disclaimer: it is importance of seeking professional medical advice for individual health concerns.

We are a mobile business and treat patients within their own home environment so you can be sure we meet with the expected standards of care and competence to treat you effectively in your own home.

We believe in flexibility and personalised care. Depending on your unique needs, we will bring a range of equipment to ensure effective and tailored treatment during your home visits. During your initial visit, we come prepared with basic treatment equipment, including massage oil and taping supplies. This allows us to start addressing your concerns right away. Subsequent visits may involve a variety of specialised treatment equipment tailored to your specific needs. This can include electrotherapy machines, therabands, walking aids, and more. For the first home visit, we typically won’t bring a treatment couch. Instead, we focus on utilising your existing environment. Assessment and initial treatments can be done on the bed, in standing, or on a chair, ensuring your comfort and convenience.

At SK Home Therapy, we understand that healthcare extends beyond individual homes and are available to visit nursing and residential care homes, providing comprehensive care to enhance the well-being of residents. We would advise checking with the care home first to make sure they are happy for us to come and to treat you or your relatives.

If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please notify us at least 24 hours in advance. Cancellations made within 24 hours of the scheduled appointment may be subject to a cancellation fee of up to 50% of the appointment fee.

We understand that unexpected circumstances can arise, and we aim to be as helpful as possible. However, as a small business, this policy allows us to manage our schedule effectively and continue providing quality care to all our clients.
